Oh yes it seems now every 3 months or so some guy out in the middle of nowhere decides to **** up a ton of computers.

The Virus is called Sasser.

Dont worry it's not a major virus and it will not harm your computer, well it will not appear to harm your computer.

What it does is slows down your computer through some loop-hole in the Newer Windows Ops. If you are experiencing any slow downs on your computer (Mainly with downloads and Fps/Ping in gameing) download this from the good men and women at Norton.

W32.Sasser Removal Tool (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.removal.tool.html)

I think I need an antivirus, but then again if I don't get one and this one explodes my dad might be convinced to buy a new computer.

You can always download warez....

You can get Norton full version for free, but its ofcourse illegal and I dont recommend it. UNLESS and this is a big unless, you have the cd bought already and either it got damaged or you lost the cd key so the cd is pretty much useless.

Dont download games either... the gaming industry lost 6 billion dollars in revenue because of illegal downloading. Thats 1/3 of the total revenue the gaming industry makes in a year.

Well well it seems some of the people responsible for the Sasser Virus were arrested AHAHAH IN YOUR FACE HACKERS!

"Microsoft and law enforcement authorities celebrated the arrest of a German teenager believed to be the mastermind behind the malicious Sasser worm.

Over the weekend, Microsoft also announced the arrest of an unidentified 18-year-old in connection with the creation and distribution of the Sasser worm that exploits a flaw in the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS), but the new development does not put an end to the threat."

Microsoft also said that it is highly likly that this was not a two man job. The code was just to complex for two people the make.

By the way there is another Varient of the Sasser out now... It's the same virus and does the same thing... cept this varient called the W32.Sasser.E.Worm can use immune operating systems 95/98/Me as a host to spread to infectable computers using the newer operating systems.

heh thank god they got those bastards. You know i bet they'd stop making viruses if somone was executed for it ^.- i mean imagine how many would actually be willing to risk thier lives for just a little prank. :D

I no longer use anti-virus software. On the few occasions I have tried it, it just made my systems run slower and made them freeze more often. I've never gotten any viruses so there isn't really a reason for the anti-virus software anyways. I don't download enough stuff to warrant using an anti-virus.

I have 3 Norton CDs, but I'm just too lazy to install them. I think a firewall should do the trick against hackers, viruses and other stuff, just watch what you're downloading like Zzero.

I've bought and used Norton AntiVirus 2004 and I hate it's performance. It's great at catching stuff, but it lacks in deleting and it seems the Kill your computers speed.

After I reformated I relized how much faster my system ran with everything uploaded except for norton. So I did some searchs on download.com and they seem to love a program called Avast (http://download.com.com/3000-2239-10285256.html?tag=lst-3-3) .

As for spyware Bazooka is the BEST, spyware detector out there. It is so fast blink your eye and you'll miss it. One problem though it will detect things that is not spyware. Bazooka (http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10247783.html?tag=lst-3-2).

Both of these are free.
