I was watching Back to the Future II this morning while I got ready for work, and being a bit of a movie geek, I noticed something I thought you all might find interesting.
Lots of people know about the urban legend that Back to the Future II predicted that the Marlins would win the world series in 1997 (and they did), even though there wasn't a team in Florida at the time! In reality, there's a clip that has the Cubs beating some team from Miami that has an alligator mascot (no name is given) in the 2015 world series. The Cubbies sweep the series in 5 games (meaning that the world series was at some point expanded to 9 games).
In that same section of the film, there's a USA Today (Hill Valley Edition) that Marty and Doc look at to see what happens to Marty, Jr. Not surprisingly, the rest of the headlines on the paper are made up. Some are humorous, like "PRESIDENT SAYS SHE'S TIRED of reporters asking the same question". Some are never to be, like "Washington Prepares for Queen Diana's Visit". However, there is one that I thought was interesting - the headline in the very top-left corner of the paper, in the sports section. It says "Slamball playoffs begin". Now, there's no description of the sport, but I thought it was interesting that there really is a sport called Slamball now.
