'Fraid it's just too gory for me, according to what I've read. I can't watch someone get whipped and beaten for 30 minutes at a stretch. Maybe if it turns out the articles I've read are exaggerating, I'll see it. It's not that I don't understand what they're trying to show with the film... it's just too much for me to take.

I don't know. . .I'm not a very religiose (sp?) person so personaly I don't truely give a flying flip about it. But I may see it if someone says they enjoyed watch Christ getting his ass kicked by soldiers ^_^.

I saw some special on E! showing some of the special affects of Jesus on the cross... was fairly graphic and yet it makes sence.

And to be that poor actor that had to hang on the cross.... eww.

I dont care what people say about it I'll still see it... anything that causes an up-roar in the public I want to see.

I've seen it yesterday and I cried till the very end. Even though it’s not 100% accurate from what really happen its dead on. You get a new spiritual side to yourself once you leave the movie theaters but I wish Mel Gibson would of shown more of what happen on the day Jesus resurrected. This movie is deeply moving and quite gory. I suggest you close your eyes when they have him chain to a log when whipping him. The 2nd time they do it is seriously painful. I don't understand how people that time can do something like that? I have no resentment to the Jews but you think they would apologize since their partly responsible for what happen. Then again I’m thinking if they did not do such a horrible act then the gates of heaven would have never been open. I read in a newspaper that the Jewish people who were in the riot said to show me the proof that what happen actually happen and that is just as stupid as saying there was no holocaust. I understand that this movie can seem somewhat anti-Semitic but this is what we believe what happen so they should respect our views as much as we should respect theirs. (Even though some people on both half don't show it)

I have a few problems with what Ive been reading and hearing from people about this film. First of all, those people who say this is historically acurate -- Well how do you know? Were you there? Do you know someone who is 2000+ years old? No one knows exactly what happened. All we know is what was written in the bible, and it doesnt go to much into detail about how much He was actually beaten and tortured. You have to remember the bible was written by man. How many different versions of the bible are there? How many different religions have broken away and formed from the Catholic church?

Second, I believe the Jews had a little to do with his death, who do you think were in the crowd cheering for Barabas when given the choice to free either him or Jesus? But hey, He came here to die for us, so in essence, we are ALL responsible for His death. Im not Anti-Semitic, Im from Jewish descent, but I am a Christian and a realist. The Jewish faith saw him as a threat and someone to be eliminated. The Romans didnt care too much cause he was a Jew. There are two basic theories why the jews at that time did what they did. As mentioned before, they thought he was a threat to the establishment. The other reason is they wanted him to destroy the Romans and be free. They thought if treatened by death from the Romans, he would bring the wrath of God down on all of them.

No one is really gonna know what happend exactly, until we die and go(hopefully) to heaven and ask The MAN Himself.

I m not as a dead on fanatic of the bible to tell what verus each paragrapgh is at but it follows most 4. Mel also input about his own view on what happen in those last 12 hours. The thing about the bible is that there always 3 out of the 4 that agrees what happen so it could be true or not. I m quite confident though that it did happen though. (will have to read it over tonight) Also i got a question for whoever saw the movie.... When Jesus got whipped, the devil past by and was holding a baby who look like mini me. I did not follow that part???????

Edit:

I forgot to add that he also follow "The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ" by Anne Catherine" I beleive she was famously known to be anti-semtic. He susposly did not know that she was though...

Saw something interesting today - Kevin Costner was saying that Gibson wasn't trying to say "Jews are bad" - it was mob mentality. Thought that was a good point.

LavisBlade

Saw this on Sunday.... One of the only movies I've ever cried at. I did'nt feel like a pussy for crying either since everyone in the theater was anyway.

To me this movie was totally right coming from the Bible point of view. The devil/shadowy figure to me signifies how Jesus was always tempted and how he remained confident in God to do what is right.

Before I go further I would like to say I'm A LUTHERAN and not a Catholic. Both teachings are fairly similar to how Jesus saved us and so on but there are little things (add-ons) in the Catholic Religion.

Also this may be a Spoiler if you know nothing about the Bible and Jesus' crucifition.

With that said The Gore is placed in the movie to show the suffering he went through for us sinners. The whipping scene is very intense. First they beat him with sticks then, like it says in the bible they whip him with whip's haveing sharp objects at the end (nails and steel points). When I saw this I was not fazed much in the emotional section, but there was the AWE of the scene. For example when the one guy is whipping him with the sharp whip it gets stuck in Jesus's side and he rips it out leaveing a huge gash on him. Then they finally are ordered to undo him they push him on his back with blood rushing on the ground and continue to whip his stomach. I was not emotionally fazed yet... but I knew I was going to start crying sometime.

Now He's sent back to Piolet who tries to set him free, but soon finding that the crowd will not give he washs his hands clean of the trail. His wife by the way is also mentioned in the Bible as constantly telling him not to execute Jesus, which was in the movie. Piolet only did this fearing that if he set Jesus free Caesar would execute him for haveing another uprising accure inside the city walls.

Now that Jesus is in the Jews hands he is ofcourse is sentenced to death. When they force Jesus to carry his own cross (Also in the bible) all the way to "The Place Of The Skull". While going through the town carrying the cross he is constantly whipped, beaten, and gets rocks thrown at him... they push him laughing when he falls on the ground. Now at this point is where I could not hold back my feelings and I busted out. Mary incounters Jesus clamped under the weight of the cross... And he said something like "It Must Be Done Mother" and he picks up the cross full of blood and continues carrying it to his own demise.

Now he soon after falling on the ground about 5 times gets help from a man that didnt even know Jesus (Also in the Bible). This man was truely right in what he did helping Jesus, the further he went with him the more he noticed how innocent this man was. Then soon Jesus falls to the ground again leaveing the man to try to hold up the cross. The Jews soon start whipping him more and the guy holding the cross soon goes insane and screams at everyone, while he crys(Another part where I cried).

Now they finally reach the hill where Jesus it tied to the cross and the nails driven into his hands and feet. The worse part of this part was the guy breaks Jesus' Arm so he could get his hand to reach the piolet hole in the cross... they then turn the cross over with Jesus under it faceing the ground blood rushing from his body into the cracks in the rocks, so they could lift the cross.

And now another part that got me going was when the theif on the cross next to Jesus notices how Jesus is praying for all the men causeing him this pain and the theif then screams out damnation on all of them saying how this man does not deserve this, but I the theif do. Then he wishes for forgiveness from Jesus and Jesus says "Tonight you will be with me in heaven."

Then Jesus Dies the earthquake shakes destroying the temple like he said it would. And at this one point everyone that experienced the quake probaly realized that this truely was the Son Of God. Also something Gibson left out was the bodies of dead prophets that rose from their graves as the quake happened telling others of Jesus as they walked into town. That would have been a nice add-on since well the Bible said it happened.

Then the scene ends....

You see a bright light moveing the huge stone (Which were Angels, but you never really see them) and then you see Jesus get up with the Holes in his hands and walk out.

END SPOILER

This movie totally made me speechless... I honestly could not talk after I left the theater. Maybe it touched me because I believe in this or maybe because of how much hate and suffering occured, but this simplely was a great movie all round and I really dont understand the big controversy with it.

As for this....

You have to remember the bible was written by man.

and

Second, I believe the Jews had a little to do with his death.

Both of these are your thoughts and I respect that, but I'm going to have to totally dissagree with both of these. No I was not there the PROPHETS were there through the whole thing Peter and John wittness almost all the pain Jesus underwent. And mostly this needs faith in God without faith you'll never believe this... does it really matter how much he was beaten? NO! why? Simple the man gave his life for us sinners, isnt that enough for you?

And actually If I'm not mistakened but Jesus gets whipped alot more then they show in that movie. He's ordered whipped by Piolet and Piolet shows them him and without a change in the crowd he has him whipped a second time and a crown of thorns set on his head. Then he hands him over.

Now as for the Jews... It isnt all of their fault, but the high leaders were the ones to blame. If you notice in the trial at the start many Jews come to protect Jesus, but they soon are kicked out of the temple. This was supposed to happen to Jesus, it was promised to many thousands of year before Christ was born. This event fulfilled the prophecy. If the Jews wouldnt have killed Jesus we would still be without a Savior as far as I know.

And now Luna you always manage to post something totally ignorant and blunt as to saying...."I don't know. . .I'm not a very religiose (sp?) person so personaly I don't truely give a flying flip about it. But I may see it if someone says they enjoyed watch Christ getting his ass kicked by soldiers ^_^." If you find this funny God have mercy on your soul literally. Go see it I dare you and if you come out of the theater unfazed your life will be soon short lived. I hope you discover the truth in later years... as of now you seem to stuck up to have feelings.

And with that I'd like to thank Mel Gibson for strengthening my faith with God through more modern technology. After hearing the story in church for many years it starts to lose it's meaning until something like this film comes around jolting the public.

Good to hear from some folks who've watched it. I have to say that even if you don't believe in Christ (I do, FYI), it's got to be pretty amazing to think about someone being willing to go through all that for others. What I mean is, even if you don't believe that he suffered and died for your sins, it's pretty amazing to think that he did all of that because he believed it.

In case anyone wonders, I've seen that same story written up by many different news agencies. As far as I can tell, the lady had a heart attack, but it's impossible to really know if the movie caused it or if it just happened. One report I read said that it happened during one of the really intense scenes in the film, but that's the best evidence I've seen that the movie was involved.

Haven't seen it myself but for those of you who are going on about how can we trust something in a book that has no proof of it happening and stuff like that i'd have to say one thing

Its called faith.

Faith is what alot of the Catholic religion is based around, believing the book without having proof of it happening. If you claim to be a good catholic just that you want some sign that God's actually there, then stop calling yourself a good catholic cause you aren't one.
