About a couple years ago, I was a huge DII player, and am thinkin about gettin back into it. I heard the new patch owns. Are there any current players here who can tell me if the fag hackers and dupers and crazed powergamers are still around(the reason i quit)?

I moved this to computers as it is a computer game.

Me too. I have the entire series, I should try Hellfire out sometime just to say I've played it, but I didn't get very far on Lords of Desctruction, got bored by the time I got there.

I have DII and LOD but I don't really play it online, I'm more into shooters. I've played the single player version offline 3 times through.

They came out with the final(?) patch recently - 1.10 - and they did a lot to crack down on hackers. They're still out there, but not as bad. If you're into online stuff, here's something interesting: they made a specific character type for Ladder - like there was Hardcore before. Every so often, they reset the ladder and all of the people who were ladder characters get kicked out to the regular realms. That's supposed to help make it so that there aren't people with uber-equipment out there on day 1 of the new ladder.

I was big into Diablo II until recently - played it for years. I finally got started on something else and uninstalled it. I'm currently playing Freedom Force (awesome superhero squad RPG).

I heard that was fun. I tried to DL it a while back, but the file was corrupted. Guess I should try again.

You can get the full game really cheap now - I bought a "Gamers' Pack" at EB or somewhere for $12 that had Freedom Force, Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit, Command and Conquer: Renegade... and some online multiplayer thing. Freedom Force was $15 or $20 by itself at that same store, so I got a deal even if I never play those other games.

Hmm, maybe I should stop by EB this week sometime. Thanks for the tip!!!

No prob - after you finish playing the regular game, you can even download and play mods that people have made where they set up their own characters, dialogue, and missions. Lots of replay value in being able to design your own heroes, powers, skins, character models, etc., as well. I'm playing through for the second time, saving up all of my prestige to recruit someone like Pre-Crisis Superman, instead of spending it to recruit lesser, but still cool characters.

There are always people like that. Blizzard made some big changes in a lot of areas. The coolest thing, I think, is that they made additions to the skills so that they support each other. Like, if you have points in Teeth (necro skill), they boost other bone skills. They call them synergies.

Well, here's a more concrete example to demonstrate the change.

In versions prior to 1.10, adding points to Bone Armor made the Bone Armor stronger, and that's all. Same thing with Bone Wall and Bone Prison.

In version 1.10, Bone Armor receives bonuses from:
- Bone Wall (+15% damage absorbed per level)
- Bone Prison (+15% damage absorbed per level)

So every point that you put into Bone Wall or Prison now actually boosts your Bone Armor, too. Cool, huh?

"Cool, huh?"

Very much so.

Ahh yes the new patch... went back to playing it for about a month and realized it was the same thing with little addons... was fun playing ladder the first day. No one to rush people and no xfered items... reminded me of them times when diablo was the new stuff. Good Times Good Times.

Them skill bounses really screwed most melee characters... plus the leech reduction.... my ladder barb was on the top of the list for awhile till I stopped at lvl 85. I bet the ladder has 99's now though.
