I don't really know the pros or cons for both, so I'm wondering if anyone has either of the two and give me your input on some.

I've been looking at the Dell DJ and comparing it with the iPod, any suggestions on which I should choose?

MD as in Mini-Disk? My brother-in-law used to live in Japan, and he has those. He really likes them, but they're only good for recording stuff and listening to it... of course, that's what you'd do with MP3s, too. They've done some cool things lately to make them hold a ton more info than they used to, but they're relatively tough to get ahold of, so you'd have a limit to your immediately available music supply.

With MP3s, you could record as many as you want onto your hard drive or whatever, and just move them over to your MP3 player when you want them - a pretty quick operation. That's the option I'd go with. Between the Dell DJ and the iPod... I'm afraid I don't know what to say. I don't know what their features are.

MD = MiniDisc, yes.
MD's are cheaper but MP3's players are more reliable and have better sound quality. I don't want to save up for a $400 MP3 player, you know? If I'd lose it I'd be in deep $#!7.

True, dat. I didn't factor that in. If you think you're likely to lose stuff, you'll probably want to go with the MD or a cheap MP3 player (i.e. not an iPod).

i had an ipod and its a bit too big to loose...and after i bought it i started thinking...why would i want to put up 1000 songs in this thing which i probably will never listen to? so i would go for a cheap mp3 player somethinh that has 256mb ...thats enough for me.

I personally use my handheld PC for mp3 playing. I have an extra 256 mb flash card on it which I load with MP3s and movies, and pics, etc.

The iRiver is a badass MP3 player. Much better than the iPod. Between the two (MD vs MP3), I would grab a nice mp3 player, but stay away from the iPod. They have too many problems.

iPod is the most popular, and best MP3 player out there. The iPod mini is $250 plays 1k songs, has play lists, genre lists, solitaire, calendar, organizer, put notes on there, you can buy car kits, home kits for them, but I am sure you can for the MD also. Hmmm it wont skip, uhhh you can get your own personalized message on them..

The biggest problem is the short battery life. Plus when it dies for good, its almost impossible to replace. Very hard to find and just a flat out poor battery performance.

True, but search around, there are plenty of reliable sources on iPod problems, especially the battery problem.

The Apple iPod mini looks pretty badass, this may be my choice for the 4Gb capacity, unless we can find another MP3 player with the same capacity for around the same price?
