View Full Version : The N5 REVEALED

Since the position I am in with Xbox Evolved, I get ahold of A LOT of PR contacts, one of these contacts told me about the Xbox 2 and what it will do. The news posted in the Mercury News (http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/business/7849191.htm) ? I knew that months ago from a PR contact. The same PR contact told me about Nintendo's next system, the N5 and it isn't pretty depending on how you look at it.

Basically Nintendo isn't going to compete with the Xbox 2 and PlayStation 3. Instead they will continue to support the GBA SP, the recently announced Nintendo DS and the N5..which is a smaller GameCube that also plays Gameboy games, and has a screen. Nintendo doesn't have any current plans for a COMPLETELY new system, just old hardware with a new look. That means they will still be making GameCube games in 2007 while we are getting Halo 3 and other kickass Xbox 2 games. This will be saddening and definately a HUGE blow to Nintendo fans when Nintendo officially announces it but you heard it here first.

Will GameCube be Nintendo's last truely unique system? I don't know but if it is it could destroy a huge part of the industry, especially because Nintendo IS going through with this and I don't know how they will recover, I mean I am sure MS and Sony will do things liek this with PS2 and Xbox 1 so not only will Nintendo be competing with Xbox 2, PS3 but also modified PS2 and Xbox systems. The odds are definately against them.

BTW if you want to bet that I am right about this or not..PM me I will be tyou $50 ;)

Whether this is the truth or not, your analysis of it is a joke. Somehow Halo 3 will be amazing because it is on the Xbox 2 yet future Gamecube games won't be? Console power has very little to do with quality of the game.

I personally was not strongly considering any next gen systems and if this news is true, then frankly I'm over the moon about it, I can continue getting new games for two of the consoles I own without having to pay for any more hardware. Hardware isn't exciting, it is the games that excite me as a gamer.

It could be cool, depending on how small they make it. If it can fit in my pocket, then that'd be awesome. I'd definitely buy one.
At first I doubted what you said was true, I couldn't believe that this would be what they were using to compete against Xbox next, and PS3, but the more I think about it, the more realistic it seems. GBA is raping Xbox and PS2. If they had a GBA with GC graphics and a reasonable price (like 75$-100$), then these things would sell like hotcakes. If they put wireless linking, and online capabilities in it I would faint.

i don't know if i should belive this, i remember reading a report about all three companies (microsoft, sony, and nintendo) all already making deals with the same company for chips in their next gen consoles (i can't remember which one), so i think that nintendo might do what john is saying, i still belive that they will release another nex-gen console

^^ IBM is creating the chips for all three companies.

That's kind of hard to believe, but there is a possibility that it could be true.

I am saying this is how the market works. They made a Final Fantasy set for PS1 that had FF games I would consider to be 10x better than FFX but which sold more? FFX.

If they had a GBA with GC graphics and a reasonable price (like 75$-100$), then these things would sell like hotcakes. If they put wireless linking, and online capabilities in it I would faint.

The price tag for somethign like this would definately be more than $100. $200 at the most I would think, especially since PSP will probably be $200 people would be even mroe excited to pay for something like a portable GC. Wireless linking I could see, but online capablities? No. I was told Nintendo has NO current plans to ever support online gaming like it is today. Lan play for games maybe, but that is it.

IBM and Ati is teaming back up with Nintendo..but only to make smaller versions of the pre-existing GameCube chips for the system...once again if you don't believe me place your bets here!

Make gamecube even smaller!?! That thing is already tiny as freaking hell! I bet the new version is going to be about the size of a disc player or something, because they going shrink it quite a bit to attract people.
I think its to early to be thinking of the next console, if xbox stops makeing games i'll probley get a GC or PS2 if i don't have one by then.

A friend of mine says that Mario cart double dash can use LAN. is that true?

JohnXE
02-08-2004, 03:32 AM
It can use LAN but you have to buy the $25 LAN Adapter and chances are you wont find people with LAN for it, s they have a online thing for it also similiar to what Halo has had before.

I'm starting to kinda get bored of Xbox, no good games for people who don't like shooting/sports.
While on the other hand, lots of games are made for nintendo and sony, but i still <3 xbox.
Anyway, i wish ps2 had more life, it goes out to easy. Man, it would be cool if the next generation systems were:

Microsoft
Sony
Nintendo
Sega
and maybe some other new people >.<

I think the market will definately expand depending on the economy, meaning we could see genre's of systems--like traditional home gaming, PCTV gaming, and more.

i don't bet, but if you are right john... there will be hundreds of thousand of dissapointed nintendo fanboys (as well as plain nintendo fans, like me). With that in mind, i think that if Microsoft doesn't do anything stupid with Xbox2 then they may win the next console war, because i am fairly confadent that nintendo fans dislike sony more than microsoft (at least i do), so they may turn to Xbox2 for nex-gen gaming

Yeah, i used to be a major Nintendo fan. I hated sony then and still don't like them much.

technically Xbox 2 could screw up..it wont come with a HD..I know that as a fact.

It might be less powerful than PS3 if the FULL cell architechiture is used in it..but I doubt it will be...I mean Xbox 2 is using the G5 technology but not completely.

BluehempXE
02-09-2004, 10:46 PM
I don't think anyone but Sony, IBM & Toshiba know how powerful the cell chip really is. Sony invested over $350 million dollars into it. But again, it could not be as powerful as people think it might be or it might be very powerful.
But then again, I heard Apple invested over a billion in making the G5.

I just have this feeling deep inside my stomach that Microsoft is just "saying" that it won't have a Hard Drive. If Sony puts a Hard Drive in the PS3, I believe that will be yet another reason people will buy the unit.
But then again, Sony can talk some bull**** too. They end up saying their console will do this and be this fast and this powerful. But then when it finally comes out, it isn't all that fast, powerful, etc. like they said it would be. They did it with the PS2 & their doing it with the PS3 now.

Overall, they will probably be all pretty powerful units. PlayStation 3 & Xbox 2 are "supposedly" going to be "faster and more "powerful" than most PC's. If Microsoft and Sony put multiple chips into their consoles, they will be "very fast." ATI is supposedly making graphics technology for the Xbox 2 that is more powerful than any of their current chips.

No consoles can ever be faster then PC's since a new more powerful verison gets put out every couple months. Thats one of the reasons i'm not a PC gamer.

bondo you have a point. But i mean you have to keep up with the times. Super mario on the nes is a kick ass game to play even now a days. But to ppl still play it? No. People like to see technology pushed to the limits not play some old crap they could make themselves. :| burp

Crazygamer...Animal Crossing looked fairly dated, yet it sold very well. It is the games that matter, not the graphics. If the NES had continued to have worthwhile games created for it another 5 years...I think people would have still played.

To quote the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, "There is no way we are going to win competing in the same arena as electronics and computer makers," a senior Nintendo official said.
"Our best option is to build on our software development abilities." The article concludes, "So as the gaming market shrinks, Nintendo has declined to go face to face with Sony, which is taking its game machines into the realm of digital appliances, and will instead seek to survive by concentrating on the market for children". This is perhaps the most damning report on any of the three hardware manufacturers seen to date.
Contrary to what has been reported in one Japanese publication, Nintendo is staying in the console hardware business and still plans to launch our next home console in the same timeframe as our competitors. In addition, we are working on a number of complementary technical advances that we believe may significantly enhance the gaming experience. We also continue to look for exciting ways to extend the value of the GCN, and will share those ideas with you in the coming months.
Specific details about other accessories or systems and their functionalities haven't yet been made public. However, we will make further information about our next console available in the near future, and we look forward to further demonstrating our record of breakthrough innovation in video game play."

hey, i just read a report on ign that could indicate that they are going to make a new nex-gen console, that is what i got out of it: read http://cube.ign.com/articles/491/491304p1.html

Interesting - it's tough to know how much of this "news" is actually political maneuvering by competing companies. My (limited) understanding is that those kinds of things happen fairly frequently in Japan.

slimscane
02-11-2004, 05:52 AM
then there was another article on ign where nintendo japan pretty much said that they were going to release their nex-gen console around the same time as ps3 and xbox2

Excuse me? And who are you to say that? I still play my NES on occasion. I will usually hook it up to play Punch-Out!! or Super Mario Brothers. I also set up my Genesis and Super Nes on occasion to play other classics such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time.

Oh and I believe Nintendo WILL be making another console.

If this is true, then it will definately be a big ****ing mistake made by Nintendo. Why does Nintendo have to be so stupid?

According to the info we got at the Nintendo pre-show press conference (printed material in addition to what was said), the next home console from Nintendo will be called the Revolution, and Nintendo's president said "the time when horsepower alone made an important difference is over". He said that the new console won't just be more powerful or anything - it'll be truly different. No idea what he means, but I think the DS proves they could pull off something really different at home, too.

I've already bet $50 against John, so Nintendo had better not let me down.
