This is the latest information from the new issue of XBN. There's also questions that one of the designers has been answering. Early summer 2004 is the expected release date for the US which is great news if true. That's what? June?
1) Battles employ the menu-based auto-attack system common to the genre. But there are new twists: Fantasy has abolished the concept of "leveling up" entirely, replacing it with a system of skill proficiencies. Combat and noncombat skills are upgraded by repeated use, and new skills are acquired through combinations of learned ones.
2) Hino hopes that this skill-based system lets players of different intensities group together effectively so casual and hardcore gamers won't be stratified into different cliques. In fact, the game is designed so that casual gamers can enjoy it fully, but those who play more frequently can earn exclusive rewards.
3) Don't like combat?? Don't worry, there's room in Fantasy's world for pacifists, too. Hino believes it’s possible to play and enjoy a noncombat character without fighting for the entirety of a lifeline in Fantasy.
4) Players can reside in their own online studio apartments, complete with the option to decorate and invite friends to show off your crib.
5) This game will have full voice chat where a voice-filtering system, similar to what already exists on Xbox Live. The only difference here is that, judging from a recent playtest, these filters are actually very cool. Grown adults are audibly transformed into fairy sprites and hulking ogres, all in an attempt to maintain immersion.
6) The world features a host of environments to explore, such as towns, shrines, caves, ruins, islands, mountains, and forests.
7) Some towns have casinos where users can gamble and make money, or a coliseum where users can fight monsters and place bets on the outcome of fights. "I hope to implement things that users would expect to see within a city or town as engaging activities in their own right" Hino said.
8) Players can ally themselves with one of several countries, such as the Kingdom of Cleria or the Magic City. It’s likely that conflict between these countries will play a central role in the narrative of the game. "We plan to implement a system that changes the world of Fantasy as time passes, Hino says. It’s possible that large narrative shifts will accompany gameplay tweaks and additional content
9) No fee has been determined
10) Fantasy has more emphasis on non combat skills than on combat skills
11) They said the world is ABSOLUTELY gigantic.
12) Expected release date in the US is early summer.

I already knew most of these things accept this... the Casinos.
Sounds like a very fun idea, only problem is I'd be the dumbass getting bet on while fighting a monster in a arena.
Also the thing about how there are more Peaceful skills apposted to combat was another thing I wouldnt expect... But like I said before TFLO looks like a friendly place.

Well actually it's from XBN not IGN. It was posted from XBN on the IGN boards, if that makes any sense?

Just found the whole article... looks like it was scanned so the pictures are in not-so-great detail. Also in one of the pictures it showed a enemy mage of some kind. It's very interesting.
Zellery has most of the big points from the article, but there are some smaller things like how you can defeat enemies when you dont even have to fight them... For example in the article Hino says, "Say you want something from a cockatrice (sp) and your not strong at combat but your a great cook... You can feed the enemy and take what you wanted from him."
Just Start On Page One.

i doubt TFLO will come out late late late like you say because FABLE will be coming out this summer and the OX Mag still says TFLO's release date is still undecided (TBD) .

It's like voice chat on any game on Xbox live cept you can change your voice...(Also on some XBL games)
In TFLO they say the voice masking actually is very cool sounding then he gave examples of some of the masks you can do. To me they do sound like fun just so they dont make them dumb like previous games. With the child masks or brat or Big Baba those sounds were loud and annoying...Oh yeah and that robot mask was gay to... basically all of the masks sucked...

so let me get this straight, you can set it so that, for example, if a little girl talked into the live headset it could be set to come out as like a troll or something????

It was a good idea, but they didnt really put enough time into makeing the sounds sound better.
You obviously dont have Xbox live or you would have run into this...

besides with voice maskin you can actually have a female character if you're a guy or vice versa..although for all of you out there i really would like you all to stay with a character of your own sex...i dont want to be talking to some girl and becoming close friends to later found out she was a guy...( ^^!)....anyways voice masking in TFLO = cool...hehe...

Basically it will work the same way as a voice synth works but with presets. The normal voice masks are all preset and don't adjust to tone, pitch, etc. The filters in this game will adjust according to the way your voice sounds. Seeing as no 2 people have the same voice when these filters are set a person wanting to sound like an elf will indeed sound like an elf, but if that person were a girl the the filter would then adjust itself to the way the pitch in a females voice sounds.
