To be honest I don't care if this game does come out or not. I tried the game once in an arcade and hated it.

If I manage to get ahold of a metal dance pad I'll most definetly get this game. I'll probably pick it up with the crappy dancepad when it first comes out ($60 bundle)

in the past i thought the songs were awesome. I literally lost 7 pounds playing at the arcades. But the only way that i will buy DDR if i get the hard metal platform (a miniature version of the arcade, can't fit the big one through door).

Nah - already got my PS2 dance pad, and I don't have XBL. I'll probably get it sometime, but on PS2. Gotta get me one or two of those hard pads, but they're too pricey for me right now. :o
If anyone wants to make their own hard pad... here's some instructions I found:

I wouldn't think people would be talking while hopping around the floor. They would probably want to talk between matches, which would be easy enough to put the headset on while sitting down, but I guess if you really wanted to talk and junk while dancing you could get an extension cable. I modified my friends headset so the sound from other players goes right through his sterio system, he just wears a Britney Spears type microphone.

humm i didn't mean talking while you play but you know if you have the headset off, the last thing you would think about if putting it on after a song is done. i think they may have some system that shows someone talking, or showing that the player online is trying to communicate with you. they don't make it clear on the site and that upsets me a bit. i would hate to play ddr online and i can't choose a song that i want to play, or we repeated a song because we couldn't communicate properly, that will get on my nerves a lot. it happens when playing at your home. well anyways i'm still gettingit, i just wanted some clarification, thanks Fiji

There is that little <= icon in the top right or something. Actually you can talk to people that are in other games now by just inviting them to a "private conversation". Joining a private conversation is just as easy as joining someone's invite to a game. A private conversation invite will show up in the top right just like a game invite and you just go to your buddy list to accept it. Besides all that junk, if you were playing ddr just with your gamepad (lol loser) if would be a sinch to talk to people.

Yeah, I just learned that a couple of years ago (I'm 28) - man did I feel stupid.
But how does it tie into... oh, now I see. "Go to First Unread Post" took me to the last post, so I missed the whole asian discussion. Now I feel stupid all over again! Anyway, I've seen a few white non-asian guys who were really good at it, but they're definitely the exception.
They did an article about DDR in my old college's newspaper recently and a friend who knows I play sent it to me. Some students have started a DDR club, and they get together and play at the student union all the time. One of them said that he figures he's spent about $4000 playing it. That's insane! Just buy a PS2 (or an Xbox, now), drop a few hundred bucks on one of those really nice hard dance pads, get every version of DDR they've put out, and you still have around $3000 to spend on a smokin' TV and sound system.

Well I bought this game with the pad a few days ago. Here are my impressions of it before a full review:
It is only for the HARDCORE and it is very hard. In fact it is probably the hardest version of DDR. It is the best version of the game also as it ahs a lot of options, Xbox Live play of course, but when you play online there are normally just enough people to play the game against, and they are all completely pro at the game. The ability to make your own dances is cool but why you couldnt use your own songs while making your own steps is beyond me. Imagaine if you could trade steps with your songs? DDR would be a completely cool P2P game! The pad can be difficult to use at times but you figure you pay $25 for the pad (the game is $40) it isn't a bad value.
The game is also definately a workout and if your not used to it you will SWEAT BALLS. A new thing, the arrows that you stand on and hold your postition makes it even harder. It is cool but it is pretty insane. A lot of the old songs are in the game but they seemed to have made them harder. Definately any DDR freak will appreciate the game and it is a must have. If you are curious about DDR you should see what yout think of it in the arcade first, or at least. I would probably give it a 7/10 at this point. Full review when XE is up!

I agree with John for the most part. I believe beginners could play this game as well. At first i sucked at this game big time, but now i do well ok in it. The trainning option in this game really helps a lot. I wish this game came with 2 pads and i wish some company would make the metal pads for this game. I also wish i didn't have to pay 5 bux to download new songs.
JohnXE

I would worry about mastering the songs that came with the game before downloading new ones. ;)

btw do they actually show whether or not someone is using the pad then the controller? Becasue it's a heck of a lot easier to use the controller then the pad.
TuckerXE

It'd be a pretty big change if they did - they've never worried about it in the past. I can see why it's more important online, though.
JohnXE
12-09-2003, 08:43 AM
When you play online there is a icon that shows if the person is using the pad or controller. I have only seen one person using the controller online though.
TuckerXE

Sweet - good thinking on their part. I'd be pretty ticked if I found out that I was using the pad and the person I was playing against was using the controller.

yea seriously, usually game developers just make a port of the game and tweak up the graphics and ship it.
TuckerXE
12-09-2003, 09:14 PM
Some of them don't seem to even bother to tweak the graphics...
Oh, and sniperbruce, there are a couple of companies that make hard pads. I don't know if they work with Xbox or not (haven't looked), but if you are interested, let me know and I'll find you some links.

Ask, and ye shall receive:
http://www.redoctane.com/redoctanemetalpad.html
http://shop.store.yahoo.net/mcpmall/20007006.html
And instructions on how to build your own:
http://www.angelfire.com/d20/ddrhomepad/
(These instructions talk about using a PS2 controller, but I see no reason why you couldn't use an Xbox controller instead.)
Of course, the links I've provided here are for PS2, but the cord on the RedOctane pad doesn't end in a PS2 plug, it ends in a box that you can plug different adapters into. Also, you can find adapters easily on the internet that allow you to use any PS2 controller on an Xbox. I bet if you put more time into a search than I did, you could find Xbox pads - I'm at work, so I'm keeping it quick.

race has nothing to do with this game, it's all about how well you can move your feet at any given moment during the game, and that takes practice folks
