Well, looks like LSU and USC are sharing the NCAA National Championship this year. What a crazy year its been. It sure would be nice to have the two teams square off for one more battle and finish this once and for all, but it wont happen.

Feel free to discuss the co-national championship, BCS, or what they should do about it here.

Basically, there's this big, nasty computer system that figures out what it thinks each school's ranking should be - that's the BCS system - and then there's a poll where college coaches and sports journalists vote on what they think the rankings should be. This year, they disagreed. In fact, if I understand correctly, the computer put the poll's #1 team at #3. That meant that they didn't even get to play in the championship game, because the game is chosen by the computer.

Clear as mud?

why don't they play for the championship instead of have people think who should be there?

There are so many teams that they can't just have straight playoffs. Also, the skill level of various conferences differs greatly. That's about the best explanation I can offer.

Yeah, the BCS was suppose to (in theroy) pair the number 1 team with the number 2 team and have a head-to-head show down for the championship.

This year, USC was number 1 on the coaches and ap polls at the end of the year. However, OU and LSU was ranked #1 and #2 on the BSC rating. OU and LSU played last night in the sugar bowl and LSU came up with the win. The last poll of the year came in this morning and put LSU on top of the coaches poll and USC on top of the AP poll, sharing the national title.

I would love to see a playoff in the NCAA like in B ball, but they will never get rid of the BCS.

Wow, although, I still want a playoff, but that will never happen...

As for a playoff: No chance. Tranghese said college presidents won't allow BCS leaders to even discuss it - even though a playoff would likely generate more revenue than the current 28-bowl system.

"If we could blow up the bowls and have a full-blown playoff system, just see how much money we could make," he said. "But it's not about money. It's about providing a lot of kids with a chance to play in a bowl."

Oh well, at least a step in the right direction.
