That is the question.
Well, lets get this new section started. There are rumors that the next XBox will or will not have a HDD built in. What do you think? Do you think MS will keep the HDD in the system, or will they drop. Should the next XBox have a HDD?

I am still going to get it if it doesn't have one, but i will be very sad if it doesn't include one, and for more than one reason. A) I will be forced to buy memory cards agian, and B) it won't be able to do some of the cool things that you can't do without one, like with the loading in game and the type of stuff that is in Blinx.
I really REALLY hope that they do, I may be so upset if they take it out that I actually may just get a revolution

They will not, I am sorry to say. Although I can not point you to any sources, it would cost too much to have a hard drive, and that would deter buyers (MS aim is to get more people playing the system, i.e. non-gamers) I think they should, as it is a lot better than memory cards and the like, but due to consumer politics it will not. Now if they go for the xbox pc hybrid, that would rule.

It will have a harddrive just not like we are used to having. Xbox is 8GB HD, an average person may use 2 GB of this at the most, 2GB can be forced into the size of Starburst with today's tech and for fairly cheap. Also because of smaller size it would load faster and more efficently.

I'm still voting for the xbox/pc hybrid. That would rule.

A hybrid would rule, but I dont think the next gen consoles will get to that point yet.
I would hate to see a smaller HDD. Larger HDDs help with main memory with paging files and what not. Plus I am really yet to see any proof that the next XBox will or will not have a HDD.

i would gladly pay more for a harddrive. I think it would deter (if not betray) all the previous xobx owners who have quickly fallen in love with the faster loading times and the saved money and convenience of not having to buy gay memory cards

The processing of the Xbox 2 would be far better, and a 2GB HD would still be enough if that were the case. Sony making its 40GB HD for PS2 is hilarious, why do they need that much? Plus like I said, say you did have a game using the HD to help load, it could use less of the HD because of how fast the HD processes, and because the architecture of the Power PC970 (what Xbox 2 may use) is much more efficent then a Intel Celeron, or Intel P4 for that matter.
In laymen's terms lets say the xbox 2 uses a 1.6 GHz Power PC G5 CPU. That would be like if it had a 3.60Ghz Penitum 4 with HTExtreme and all that other good crap.

Good thing about flash cards is that is has Low Power Consumption. That means the xbox 2 save less money on the power supply or just uses the rest for the g5 to consume (I think that the CPU xbox 2 is using). Bad news is that the 2 gig flash memory cost 2x as more as a regular 40-50 gig HD which cost 40-60 buxs. I m guessing they are doing this for security reasons. I still sure that the next xbox 2 will be a lot better and more secure.

I'd be pissed if they didn't include a hard drive... So pissed that i'd just play Halo on GameSpy all day, and not bother getting Xbox 2...
Sony making its 40GB HD for PS2 is hilarious, why do they need that much?Sounds like a good way to place some illegal games onto the hard drive...(Don't know if that could be done with 'their' hard drive though.)
Anyway, I definitely want one. I hate that my GameCube doesn't have a hard drive since I have bought an Xbox. I mean, I can now save as many game files as I want without having to be restricted (KOTOR, for instance). With memory cards I would be sooooooo ****ed.
