Anyone getting Doom III this Tuesday when it comes out? I just reserved it earlier today. Wasn't sure about whether I was going to get the game or not, but decided I will give it a shot.

I think I'll wait for the single-player demo to be released in a few weeks, and base my decision off of that. I work at a game store, but sadly we no longer carry PC games...otherwise I'd probably end up buying the game on a whim at work someday.

Can't run on my computer, so I guess I'll wait until I can afford a new one, or get it on XBOX.

Well believe it or not the game will actually run on most setups, you will just have to lower the resolution and detail to get it running smoothly. As for my setup, I expect to be able to run the game at 800x600 at medium graphic quality settings and get a smooth frame rate. I could probably get it running smoothly at 1024x768 if I were to upgrade my video card, which I will probably be doing in the next few months.

I'm getting a new computer (powerbook), and yet I'm getting it for my Xbox cause I know my PC won't be able to handle it.

But I will also need to replace my board too, and that will cause me to replace RAM too. I gotta save for a while.

for all those people that said they couldn't run it you dunno what your talking about. We got my copy to run on the most ghetto of ghetto computers. My friends HP with its 800 MHz its 256 RAM and its *GASP* Geforce 2 MX. The game ran just smooth enough to play and the graphics were still amazing. All we took off was the bump mapping and the realtime shadow engine and after that behold doom in its still visual kick ass glory.

I have heard it scary. I have had my questions about the game. I am currently DLing it now. I will give it a trial run to see if I like it. If I do, then I will get my own copy. If not, then no loss to me. :D

I said I would buy it if I really like it. :D
Besides, money is tight. It saved me big with stuff like The Sims. I DLed it see what the big deal was about, played for like an hour maybe two, realised that its not my kinda game and removed.
If I do get it, there is a sale at Best Buy where it comes with a free gaming keyboard. The layout looks sweet, but it might be a cheap POS. I will have to check it out.

Got the game today and yes its pretty scary... if you have surrond sound, Oh dear god get some extra pants.
Me being dumb put it on the hardest diff veteran and I got murdered. When I had it on high performance I thought it was lagging but it doesnt its just the way the game plays, kind of hard to explain.
GO BUY IT NOW!
It's well worth 55$.
I cannot wait to see some of the mods that come out for this game :eekdrool:
And yes the game looks amazeing, but eveyone has said that already....

Doom III-once Bungie competed with the title, funny how things changed and Doom III is the poor-mans FPS in comparison to Halo. Save your money guys and wait for Halo 2, after playing it on Xbox it wasnt that great. Graphically its great, and the gameplay is solid at most but after that, its just what Doom was before.

I think someone is being blinded by Halo. Doom III and Halo are completely different titles. Doom III is a slow, horror-based shooter. Halo is slightly faster and more action packed. Halo 2 isn't going to be out for a while, and I say if you can run the game, buy Doom III, it'll help you kill some time until Halo 2 comes out. There are a lot of Doom fans out there, so hopefully we'll start seeing some nice MODs and other extras/add-ons.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA....OMG, dude, you sound like a crybaby, and a pussy.
:lol1: :haha2: :haha:
I can't wait to play DOOM III....I love those types of games that is scary, and at the same time, is a first person shooter...Although I have never played a scary FPS before. I only have played something CLOSE to it, that's about it.
I think it is pretty, some of the sets are extreamly well done, particularly this one place in hell. My brother got the game and I watched him play for quite a while. I'm sure he'll let me play later after he beats the game, and he was close when he went to bed last night. I'd buy it myself except this POS couldn't handle it.

I know, I hear this every day from co-workers. "You're just hurting your own kind." Either way, my stuff gets stolen and used daily, and you learn to not let it bother you after a while.
I dont have much of this DL going until today. My pc was running way too hot and all the equipment I have it way too demanding for a 300W power supply. So I added a few fans, round ATA cables and a 480/550W PS and now things are cooking. :D
Should have it by the end of the week.

My friend beat the game in 2 days after he bought it. A 20 hour game finished in 2 days. If you do the math, that means he didn't do much besides eat, sleep, and play Doom III for 2 days straight. I think I'm about 1/4 of the way through the game. I've actually been playing a lot of UT2K4 with my friends online so I haven't had much time for Doom yet.
As for the fear factor in Doom, its kinda hard to explain. Half the time you know where the demons/zombies are going to pop out from, but they will still scare you. Kinda hard to explain, you have to play the game for yourself to know what I mean. I wonder how the game will feel on Xbox. I personally have a feeling playing it on a PC would be better atmosphere-wise. You have your monitor and speakers right in front of you and it gives a scarier, darker feeling. If you are sitting like 6 feet away and staring at some low-resolution television I don't think the scare factor will be as powerful.

I have a surround sound system in my room with a 13 inch tv! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
We have a really nice 27 inch flat screen in our living room, but there is no internet access down there, and i couldn't hog the tv. I move my xbox down there once in awhile, but never my surround sound system.
Though it should still be scary on xbox with my 13 inch screen, silenthill freaked me out.
So how is the sound in the game? Is there alot of bass? I like games with alot bass, like Mech Assult, which has a little to much bass.
