That is the pic of the Newsweek that should be out now.

This new iPod from what I understand will be skinnier, and come in multiple colors like iPod mini. Not only that all models will be $100 less (so a 20gb iPod goes from $400 to $300) and they are introducing a 60Gb for some reason. I dont know about other features but all this should become clear this week. I got my iPod at best buy and got a warranty, so now I can just trade mine in and get a 40gb now that the price is down!

I would not mind a MP3 player of some kind. An iPod or maybe an iRiver HD. Right now, I just use my hand held with a 256MB CF in it to store MP3s. Its about 30 or so songs, but I would like something a little nice to use.

I dont know how you could see it as a ripoff for the capabilities. Also my iPod I got a warranty, so therefore I am just returning it for the new one, and returning my 20gb in for the 40gb now that it is much cheaper in price :) www.apple.com for full official story.

It's a rip off 'cause you can get a better Creativ Nomad Xen for like $200 less and it has better battery life, etc.

I really want a nice HDD MP3 player, but I can't decide between the iPod, iRiver, or the Zen Xtra.....

DogbertXE is right. iPods do suck. Why you ask? Because once the rechargeable battery dies on you (which can take no more than a year under heavy use), you have to send the player to Apple to get the battery replaced. That alone will cost you $100. So lets see here, spend $400 on an MP3 player, and then $100 every year to replace the battery? No thanks.

I would rather go with a Creative Zen Xtra. The battery is user replaceable so theres no trouble to go through. They have 30 GB, 40 GB, and 60 GB models currently available and are also more affordable than iPods.

The iPod battery is also replaceable. Besides that it is small, and very well made. The iPod isnt the #1 MP3 player because it sucks. Other then that, the 20GB can be bought for as low as $260 brand new, with a message engraved with a message if you would like.

The new iPods have up to 12 hr play, so even if the battery does start to crap out (which any battery will it isnt Apple's fault or anyone's) at least it wont be as bad. Besides that I can just trade mine in for a new one at no charge when a new version comes out. Also Dogbert, iPods arent just for the rich, a lot of different kinds of people have an iPod. Im not rich at all and I have one.

I didn't say it was'nt. The difference between the iPod and the Creative MP3 player is that the Creative Zen Xtra's battery can be user-replaced. In order to replace the iPod's battery you need to send it back to Apple and pay a $100. No thanks.

Where to purchase and how to replace the battery for most common MP3 Players.

Obviously the Xen model has the easies way to go to the battery, but I hear a lot of complaints about the location of that "flip switch" and people hitting to easily on accident, causing the cover to get loose exposing the unit.

My personally, after reading a lot of reviews, and playing with them in the store, I like the new 4G iPods. They appear to have better features, better support (I have been impressed with Apples support on these units recently), and better audio quality. This is why the are the more popular unit. They are just a good strong quality build.

I hear a lot of complaints about the lack of quality build on the Xen and problems with audio quality. The iRiver are sweet, but for a good one with equal storage capacity, you are paying more than the iPod. Now that the iPod dropped $100 on the price, plus you can get a additional $35 off for student discounts, its the one I like the best personally.
