what is the phantom? i dont understand is it a new system?

It was supposed to be this amazing system that would play games from any console (PC, too? Can't remember). It would be hooked up to a broadband connection (you supply the connection) and you'd just download games to it instead of getting them from the store, but I'm pretty sure you still paid for them. Some game sites and magazines were reporting it as a hoax a while back, but I haven't seen these pictures before today, so who knows - maybe they are new and true.

I remember it, too. It's just that the whole concept of the Phantom sounds like some kind of practical joke that went too far and now they can't seem to take it back. "Hey, let's pretend we're making a system that downloads games from every system out there and plays them all!" "Yeah, that'll be hilarious - no one would believe that."

Two weeks later...
"Uh oh - people really believed it... What do we do now?" "I don't know. Just keep playing along until we can figure something out!"

Back on topic: I thought their video was great, their site, everything, one of the best pranks ever. It'll be even funnier if Infinium Labs actually released it. I would think the project would cost BILLIONS.

yeah some group ran an article about how it was fake, the link to it was on Ian McDonald's web comic www.machall.com well the article pretty much said that the dude was trying to run his company out of a PO box in mexico and had false adresses such as the companies location the floor that the offices should be on were still under construction and at that time was being used as storage, and had not been leased to anyone nor had the receptionist heard of infinium labs.

yeah they called up the offices and the receptionist was like there is no one on the 35th floor of this office building and theyw ree like theres suppose to be a game company so she went up there and it was completely empty let me see if I can find the link

The Phantom is a pretty big joke, but it would be a lot better if they marketed the machine as a gaming computer to compete with Alienware rather than a gaming console to compete with Xbox, PS2, or GC.
