Alright, this is a main topic at all XBox forums....
The aged old discussion of Madden football verus ESPN 2K series.
With the new graphics and awesome franchise features (along with the price drop), I think I will be added ESPN to my collection this year instead of Madden for the first time.
Madden and NCAA FB where the only 2 EA sports titles I bought anymore. I have been getting the ESPN lineup for NHL, NBA, and NCAAA CB. I will be getting NCAA, cause its the only one, so only time will tell when ESPN puts one out for that.

I owned NFL 2k on the Dreamcast and thought it was excellent. After that, I only bought Madden until last year, and I though ESPN was better than Madden in every way except franchise depth. I'll be buying ESPN once again this year, and saving $30 in the process.

I used to think the same, but ESPN really turned my head last year (but I still got Madden because it impressed me). This year, ESPN won me over and Madden did not do a think for me. I am excited about picking up my copy tomorrow.
As far as NBA and NHL go, ESPN has my choice there hands down!

The only major sport that is portrayed better by EA Sports than ESPN Videogames is baseball, in my opinion. I'd choose ESPN NFL and NHL over the EA Sports franchises in a heartbeat, and basketball is pretty neck-and-neck. MVP Baseball 2004 was the best baseball game of the year by far, though.

Baseball is the sports game I dont play, so I dont have an opinion there. The basketball physics in the ESPN series seems to be more realistic to me, so I have to go with them, and the same reasons with NHL. I like a very deep franchise and the most realistic simulation I can find when it comes to a sports game.

Right now I have to say ESPN wins due to the $$$. If the games are already close in the style of game and graphics but one is cheaper then the other.....well that gets my vote.

The ESPN series own everything released by EA besides for the baseball games, as stated earlier above. Even then, maybe the ESPN baseball games will eventually improve and become better than EA's offerings.

Sports game series are ridiculous. It's the same game every year, changing minor features (we'll give real cheerleaders faces now!), sticking the latest year after the title, and sell it once again for $50. If you like sports games, buy one game from each category with the best rating. I don't see how you can get bored with one of the games, then go out and buy the next years' title and have fun with it. It's the same freakin' process.

I feel the same way. I bought Madden 2002 and I probably wont buy another football game until xbox 2.

Which is why I typically only buy one sport game per sport per console generation (excluding pro wrestling titles, then I buy them all :))

True, but the game would get a little boring for those stuck with OL positions.

OL, woot.. Anyway i think madden got this one because ESPN nfl 2k5 has the worst xbox live serivce ever. It has tons of server problems with not being able to detect rosters so you can't play with anyone and freezes during onling games. I read an announcement that they will be coming out with an auto update to fix this problem and the freezes during online play. No wonder this game cost 20 buxs :-(.

I reviewed ESPN 2K5 after playing it since launch, and all I can say is this....I'm waiting for Madden.. I've stopped playing ESPN and have been playing NCAA 2005 just waiting for Madden. ESPN just isn't for me, I need a realistic game and the broken tackles and the fact that the ball carrier is guareenteed 2 yards if needed on 3rd or 4th down due to all the animations making them fall forward.

If you charge up your defender, the RB goes on his back. :D
